New Report Ranks Indiana Among States with the Worst Quality of Life

INDIANAPOLIS - A new report conducted and released by CNBC ranked Indiana as the second worst state for quality of life. To determine a state's quality of life, metrics such as crime, child care, health care, and environmental quality are used. The survey is a part of CNBC's annual ranking of state business climates.

According to the study, the Hoosier state ranked so low due to its lack of child care access. The Hoosier State has just 772 licensed child care facilities serving a population of almost 7 million. Indiana's score also plummeted due to its failure to extend inclusivity to minority populations and its strict abortion ban - the first to pass after the fall of Roe. As a result, it garnered a paltry 78 out of 325 total points in the quality of life category.

"It's extremely disheartening, but not surprising, that Indiana's quality of life ranking is so low once again," said Indiana Democratic Party Chair Mike Schmuhl. "We can't keep on trying the same trickle-down politics and expecting different results for working families. Hoosiers deserve to be in the top tier of rankings around wages and educational opportunity, but instead we are second to last in quality of life and dead last for child care access. We can do better.

"MAGA acolytes like Micah Beckwith, Todd Rokita, Mike Braun, and Jim Banks damaged Indiana's reputation and our quality of life, but that doesn't mean we can't change that. We have a chance to end 20 years of one party rule by electing Jennifer McCormick as our next governor and Destiny Wells as our next attorney general."
