Market Opening in Costa Rica for the Export of Live Equines — Joint Press Release MRE/MAPA

The Brazilian government has received with satisfaction the announcement by the Costa Rican government authorizing Brazil to export live equines to that country.

This new opening is expected to contribute to the increase in trade flow between the two countries, reflecting international confidence in Brazil's sanitary control system.

Costa Rica is an important destination for Brazilian agricultural products. The main exported items are cereals, flours and preparations, forest products, and soy complex products. In 2023, Brazil's agricultural exports to this market reached USD 272 million. In the first half of 2024, they amounted to USD 153 million.

In February, Brazil also opened the Costa Rican market for the export of mesenchymal stem cell-based products for therapeutic purposes for dogs, cats, and equines.

With this announcement, Brazilian agribusiness reaches its 86th market opening in 2024, totaling 164 openings in 54 countries since the beginning of 2023.

These results are the fruit of the joint effort of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA).
