Wheeling Athletics to Hold "Stuff the Truck" Event Benefitting Catholic Charities

Wheeling, W. Va. - The football matchup between Wheeling University and West liberty will offer fans the chance to help area residents this holiday season.

Saturday's primetime game between the Mountain East Conference rivals at 6 p.m. will be the time for those attending to participate in "Stuff the Truck," a food drive sponsored by the Wheeling University Athletic Department in collaboration with West Liberty University. Fans are asked to bring canned goods and other non-perishable food items, as the Cardinals look to make an impact and help families in need as they prepare for the holiday season.

All donations made will benefit Catholic Charities West Virginia.

"We want to be Wheeling's university, and events like this are our way of giving back to a community that has done so much for us," said Wheeling University Athletic Director Carrie Hanna. "We want to live our mission of educating for life, leadership and service with and among others, and this is one of the many ways we strive to live out that mission."

There will be a box truck, presented by Aladdin Campus Dining, stationed in the Alma Grace McDonough Center parking lot. Food items can be dropped off at the truck throughout the contest.

Wheeling Central Catholic High School fans can donate items during its playoff game Saturday afternoon at 12:30 PM.

Fans from both universities and high school are encouraged to donate this Saturday. Once the event has concluded, the donations will be taken to Catholic Charities in Wheeling, where they will be distributed to local families in need.

Catholic Charities has 13 locations across the state of West Virginia, including two locations in Wheeling. They serve all 55 counties in West Virginia and serve all people regardless of faith, family, or background. Their mission is to be guided by God's love, Catholic Charities WV collaborates with community partners, parishes, and families to provide caring and compassionate services to people in need and work toward lasting and meaningful change.

Anyone who cannot attend the games but would like to donate to the "Stuff the Truck" drive on Saturday can take items to the Wheeling University Athletic Office inside the McDonough Center.
