SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - The Shepherd University Foundation's annual Scarborough Society Gala saw success during its 2024 event on August 9 at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Each year, the Scarborough Society uses the book-themed event as a fundraiser to benefit the University's Scarborough Library.

This year's book was Madeline Miller's Circe, which explores various myths through the perspective of the titular ancient Greek witch.

The evening featured flower-filled vases on tabletops, Greek-inspired statues, and white pillars at the door to transform the Bavarian Inn for guests. Food included a selection of passed entrees, food stations, and themed desserts.

The work that went into planning and organizing this year's gala paid off, raising over $26,000 that will be used to support and enhance the Scarborough Library's collections, programs, and technology.

Presenting sponsors for the event were Jefferson Security Bank and United Bank, Inc.

Other community sponsors included Truist; Austin '76 and Carmen Slater; B. Lee '72 and Karen Snyder; Ray '62 and Mary Alvarez; Conrad Luttrell LLP; Insurance Outfitters; McMorgan & Company; Rotary Club of Shepherdstown; Wealthspire Advisors, LLC; Bowles Rice LLP; Gat Creek; Rich '14 and Sara '17 Goodman; Chris and Sherri Janelle; Dick and Kathy Klein; Ours, Lawyer, Lewis & Co, PLLC; SEK, CPAs, & Advisors; Skinner Accident & Injury Lawyers; Smallwood & Small Insurance; WVU Medicine; and YHB, CPAs & Consultants.

The Scarborough Society also gave special recognition to the Bavarian Inn for its hospitality and dedicated assistance with event production.

Membership in the organization is available on an annual basis and members' names are engraved on a Wall of Honor located in the library.
