2024 FIJI TOURISM CONVENTION: A LANDMARK...

The 2024 Fiji Tourism Convention held this week in Nadi has been a landmark achievement in the Coalition Governments efforts to push growth, innovation and sustainability in Fiji's tourism industry.

With a record-breaking visitor numbers and forward-looking national tourism framework, the Convention will highlight the government's successful leadership and the industry's resilience in building Fiji's position as a top global destination.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Villiame Gavoka said the Convention was not only a gathering for stakeholders, but a reflection of how far Fiji's tourism has come under the Government's direction.

"Public-private partnership is essential to our success, and we are committed to working closely with you to drive our future. The government's role is to create an enabling environment, but it is the collaboration with the private sector that will propel us forward."

DPM Gavoka also highlighted that a key outcome of the Convention is the launch of the Fiji National Sustainable Tourism Framework 2024-2034 which demonstrates the government's commitment to position Fiji as a global leader in sustainable tourism, ensuring long term benefits for environment and local communities.

He stressed that the Convention solidifies the Coalition Government's commitment towards sustainable tourism.

The Minister for Tourism also stated that with the government's strategic investments in infrastructure and airline the nation is on track to reach a milestone of 1 million visitors for 2024.

He said that the tourism sector has experienced unprecedented growth whereby Fiji recorded 929,740 visitors in 2023, a four percent increase from pre-pandemic levels.

"I have personally seen the resilience, innovation, and dedication of everyone contributing to the growth of this industry. From January to August 2024, we have already welcomed a total of 640,274 visitors. To reach 1 million visitors, we need about 90,000 per month. As we look forward, it seems highly likely that Fiji could reach 1 million visitors by the end of 2024."

The Deputy Prime Minister shared that with the theme "Tourism Together", the also represents the government's successful efforts to balance economic growth with sustainability and innovation.
