City of Detroit Offering Community Emergency Response Team Volunteer Training Beginning September 19

Are you interested in learning about basic medical treatment, disaster preparedness, or other life saving techniques? Would you like to be equipped with this crucial training when your family or the community is in need? The City of DetroitOffice of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (DHSEM) will hold its next 4-day training class for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers from Thursday, September 19, through Saturday, September 21, and Saturday, September 28, at the Eastside Community Network, located at 4401 Conner St. in Detroit.

The free CERT training includes disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED), how to bandage wounds, basic medical treatment such as how to treat burns, fractures, strains, and hypothermia, and other life-saving techniques. The training will be conducted by the Detroit Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Detroit Fire Department, and Detroit EMS.

The September classes will be held September 19 and September 20 from 5:30 pm to 8 pm and on Saturdays, September 21 and September 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants must complete all four sessions to receive their certificate of completion.
