The 2022 GoodRx Helps Equity in Pharmacy Scholarship

For the fourth consecutive year, GoodRx Helps is proud to offer financial assistance to future pharmacists and pharmacy technicians through the GoodRx Helps Equity in Pharmacy Scholarship. These healthcare professionals play a critical role in patient care, and we believe it's important to support them.

It's also crucial to highlight representation in healthcare, so we're providing financial assistance to 10 individuals who are passionate about advancing health equity in the pharmacy profession. In a 2019 study, 21.8% of pharmacists identified as non-white, compared with 14.9% in 2014 and 13.5% in 2009.

Financial assistance allows students to focus more on their studies and less on the financial burdens of their training. According to the same study, pharmacists are facing over $170,000 in student debt on average after graduation. Pharmacy technicians often complete 1 to 2 years of education and training in an associate's degree or a certification program.

Below is more information on the scholarship and how to apply. We'll accept applications from May 16 to June 27, 2022. Winners will be announced on July 25, 2022.

How do you apply for the scholarship?

Each year, we ask applicants how they would solve a specific problem in healthcare. For example, previous winners described how they might use technology to address health disparities in their communities.

This year, applicants are asked to share their opinions on expanding pharmacists' prescribing responsibilities. Such policies are already in effect in several states and offer yet another way for pharmacists to impact patients' lives. The varying degrees of authority to assess and prescribe treatments to patients could redefine the pharmacist's role in patient care.

In addition, applicants are invited to share career goals, work experience (if applicable), and education information.

After reviewing all applications, GoodRx Helps will provide $5,000 each to 10 winners (5 PharmD students and 5 pharmacy technician students).

Who's eligible to apply?

Applicants must:

  • Self-identify as a person from an underrepresented population in the healthcare field

    AND

  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)

Applicants should also be:

  • Enrolled (in at least your first year) in a pharmacy doctorate program at a college of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)

    OR

  • Currently enrolled in a pharmacy technician program

    OR

  • Recipients of a pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) within 6 months of the scholarship application deadline

This scholarship is just one way GoodRx Helps hopes to support a more diverse and inclusive healthcare environment. We're excited to hear from future pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who are passionate about advancing equity in their field.
