Brown Statement on the Passing of Former Banking Housing and Urban Affairs Committee Chair Tim Johnson

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Chair of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, offered his condolences to the family of former Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) following the news that he passed away. Brown served on the Banking and Housing Committee with Johnson from 2007 to 2015, including under Johnson's leadership as Chair of the Committee.

"Tim Johnson dedicated his life to public service. During our time together on the Senate Banking and Housing Committee, after the 2008 financial crisis, Tim and I worked together to pass, implement, and defend the landmark Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform law to protect working families from Wall Street greed and prevent more taxpayer-funded bailouts. Under Tim's leadership, we launched the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau into action, working to build an agency that looks out for workers. A proud son of South Dakota, Tim used every opportunity he had to fight for South Dakotans and for all working families. He was an honest, effective, bipartisan leader who set a strong example as committee chair, and he was a kind and decent man," said Brown. "Connie and I send our deepest condolences to Barbara and their family."
