Making Fones Road safer for people that walk, use a wheelchair, ride a bicycle, or drive.

Construction of the Fones Road Corridor Project begins on November 18, 2024 and will continue through the summer of 2026. The City's contractor, Pivetta Brothers Construction Inc., will begin work by moving equipment and materials to the site and establishing project limits.
Fones Road is a critical corridor directly serving commercial, industrial, and residential properties in east Olympia. This project will make it safer and more accessible for everyone who uses it, whether they are walking, bicycling, or driving.
The project will:
-
Build sidewalks and separated bike lanes to create a safer and more comfortable environment for pedestrians and bicyclists.
-
Improve truck access and circulation near industrial sites and commercial properties.
-
Create safer connections to nearby transit stops on 18th and Pacific Avenues.
-
Upgrade water lines.
-
Upgrade stormwater treatment.
-
Repave the street and reconfigure travel lanes.
-
Add landscaping and lighting along the whole corridor.
-
Allow for new communication service lines along the corridor.

|
During construction, business will remain open, you can expect:
-
Lane closures and flaggers directing traffic.
-
Temporary driveway closures.
-
Noise, vibration, dust, and debris.
-
Large machinery and truck activity.
-
Periodic night work.
-
Detours for pedestrians and cyclists due to the closure of crosswalks, sidewalks, trail entrances, or bike lanes.
