Hurricane Milton Storm Advisory 1

The City of Fort Pierce is actively monitoring Hurricane Milton and preparing for any potential impacts. Currently, Hurricane Milton has strengthened to a Category 4 Hurricane. Heavy rainfall is likely to cause significant local flash and urban flooding across parts of Florida.

Potential Impacts for the City of Fort Pierce:

  • Primary hazards:Heavy rain and strong winds in fast-moving squalls, primarily on Wednesday and throughout Thursday.
  • Rainfall:4-6 inches, increasing the risk of localized flooding in areas that have experienced above-average rainfall in recent weeks.
  • Winds:Tropical storm conditions possible.

Sand Distribution

The City of Fort Pierce is offering free, self-serve sand stations for residents at the following locations: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dreamland Park (S. 25th St.), Pioneer Park (Ave M and N. 29th St.), Little Jim Bait & Tackle (601 N. Causeway), Maravilla Park (2622 Oleander Ave), and Jaycee Park (South Hutchinson Island). Stations will be available starting today, Monday, October 7, 2024, at noon. Residents are asked to bring their own bags and shovels. Parks are open daily from dawn to dusk.

Solid Waste Collection

The Solid Waste Division will operate on its normal schedule. Residents are asked to avoid cutting down vegetation or starting major projects until the storm passes. No additional debris should be placed at the curb, as it may obstruct stormwater flow.

Streets and Drainage

The Streets and Drainage Division is actively working to clear stormwater systems of any obstructions to ensure they are operating at full capacity.

Communication

The City of Fort Pierce is committed to keeping residents safe and informed. Public notices will be posted on the city's website, social media channels, and Fort Pierce TV Channel 27.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for St. Lucie County's Alert St. Lucie program to receive emergency notifications directly via phone, email, or text: www.stlucieco.gov/Alert.

Indian River State College

IRSC will close all campuses at 5 p.m., today, October 7, 2024, in preparation for Hurricane Milton. The closure affects all employees, students, and visitors, and includes the cancellation of all classes, including online courses, and campus events. The College will remain closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, October 8 - 10, 2024. The College anticipates reopening on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 8 a.m., but students, employees, and visitors are encouraged to check for updates.
