ADL 422363, Application for Temporary Closure of One Half Mile of RST 1931 and RST 644 Near Ft. Knox Mine

PUBLIC NOTICE
ADL 422363

6/26/24

Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:

APPLICANT: Fairbanks Gold Mining Incorporated

PROJECT NAME: ADL 422363

GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION: 7 miles northeast of Fox

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Those portions of RST 1931, RST 644, and section line easements within the SE ¼ SE ¼ of Section 20, the SW ¼ SW ¼ of Section 21, and those portions of RST 1931 and RST 644 within Mineral Survey 2008, Township 2 North, Range 2 East, Fairbanks Meridian, including both existing routes and the consolidated reroute approved under PRJ 421014.

REQUESTED ACTIVITY: The applicant has requested to close to general public use, for a period of one year, approximately 2,380 feet of RST 1931 and RST 644 near their termini atop Gilmore Dome. The RS 2477 trails referred to were approved for an administrative reroute under PRJ 421014 in 2018. The particular section of trail involved was not developed at the time, so the reroute decision mandated only that the reroute be brushed for pedestrian use to maintain connection to the historical endpoints of the respective trails. DNR-DMLW is unaware of any current usage of the 2,380 feet of trail involved. The closure has been requested to safely construct and use a substantially more direct waste rock haul route to access the Victoria Creek Waste Rock Dump for the neighboring Fort Knox Mine. See attached maps.

REQUESTED TERM: One year.

DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: July 26, 2024.

The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity.
