President Meloni receives former President Mario Draghi at Palazzo Chigi

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received former President of the Council of Ministers Mario Draghi at Palazzo Chigi this afternoon.

The long meeting centred around an in-depth discussion on Mario Draghi's report on the future of European competitiveness, which the Government believes raises several important points, such as the need for a greater drive towards innovation, the demographic issue, the sourcing of critical raw materials and control over value chains, and, more in general, the need for Europe to provide for appropriate instruments to implement its ambitious strategies - from strengthening the defence industry through to the dual transitions - without excluding anything a priori, including the possibility of new common debt.

These shared priorities also mirror the Government's work in Italy and in the European institutions.

President Meloni and former President Draghi agreed to keep in touch to continue to discuss these issues in depth.
