Santa Clara County Reps Announce $2.5M+ for Conservation Efforts

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Representatives Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Anna Eshoo (CA-16), Ro Khanna (CA-17), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) announced that the Santa Clara Valley Habitat Agency will receive $2,504,420 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to support habitat conservation efforts.

"For the sake of future generations, we need to make investments now that preserve and protect our environment tomorrow. This federal funding will give the Santa Clara Valley Habitat Agency additional tools to conserve and restore habitats across the County. We welcome smart, balanced federal investments that help protect diverse local ecosystems," said Reps. Lofgren, Eshoo, Khanna, and Panetta.

The FWS funding was provided by the Habitat Conservation Plan Land Acquisition Grants Program, which supports land acquisition projects that aim to conserve species habitats.

This funding program was authorized by Section 6 of the Endangered Species Act, is partly funded through theCooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fundand Land and Water Conservation Fund, and it was included in the FY24 consolidated appropriations package.
