Up to $10,000 Mini-Grants Available for St. Pete Communities to Plant Shade Trees

August 12, 2024 - The City of St. Petersburg's Neighborhood Tree Matching Mini-Grant Program has returned for a third funding cycle and applications are open now through Sept. 9, 2024. Neighborhood and business associations can apply for funding of up to $10,000 to plant trees in their community.

The Neighborhood Tree Matching Mini-Grant Program is designed to provide shade trees in approved rights-of-way and street-facing front yards. Previous funding cycles of the Neighborhood Tree Matching Mini-Grant Program have enabled more than 70 shade trees to be planted throughout communities in St. Pete.

Applications are open now and will close on Sept. 9, 2024, at 5 p.m., with the goal of tree planting taking place in October and November 2024.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • The requesting party is a registered neighborhood or business association with the City of St. Petersburg.

  • The association has no outstanding previously approved grants with the City of St. Petersburg, with the exception of an award from round two of the Neighborhood Tree Matching Mini-Grant Program.

  • Tree planting projects must be completed within 12 months.

  • Trees must be planted in the approved right-of-way or on street-facing private front yards with no utility conflicts.

  • The trees used must be approved species.

  • Letters of support from appropriate City departments are required for planting on City-owned property.
