CIPPO Conference Takes a Deep Dive into Next Decade of Advanced Manufacturing

Connecting Innovation, Policy, and Practice Ohio (CIPPO) will hold its annual conference on August 20 at the Roberta Steinbacher Atrium in the Levin College of Public and Urban Affairs.

This year, the theme will center around smart manufacturing.

In partnership with the Expanding Ohio Manufacturing Digitization Securely at Scale (EMDiS) Center for Excellence at Cleveland State University and co-sponsored by the United States Economic Development Administration (EDA), the conference aims to highlight major federally funded innovation projects in Ohio. It will also shed light on the role of universities in spurring innovation and discuss successes and lessons learned in the innovation space, potentially leading to the identification and creation of synergies and partnerships.

"Manufacturing has long been a driver industry for Ohio and northeast Ohio, and both adaptation and innovation are key to the sector's growth," said CSU's director for the Center of Economic Development, Molly Schnoke. "Ohio is well positioned to provide these opportunities."

CIPPO will explore the current and future states of innovation, providing an outlet for the leading voices in practice and research across the state while, at the same time, highlighting major federally funded innovation projects in Ohio and the role of universities in spurring innovation.

"We hope this event will spark discussions on Ohio's strengths in the field, initiate further research, and open the opportunity to explore what more can be done to position Ohio as a leader in smart manufacturing," said Schnoke.

The conference hopes to generate much conversation and become a significant player in bridging the gap between vital community partners and the university. Schnoke also points out that it is a great space to engage with key stakeholders and intermediaries currently leading the region and state while understanding innovations in manufacturing and gaining a better knowledge of what state and local leaders are currently doing.

"We hope attendees will better understand the landscape of opportunities driving manufacturing into the future," said Schnoke. "It will develop the next generation's manufacturing workforce and grow Ohio's economy."
