The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, participated in the COP29 events in Baku, promoting Italy's actions for resilience and international cooperation on climate.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Edmondo Cirielli, spoke yesterday at COP 29 in Baku, participating in a series of key events aimed at strengthening Italy's commitment to combating climate change and promoting sustainable development globally.
The Deputy Minister opened - at the Italian Pavillon - the event entitled "The Mattei Plan for Africa: Climate Finance for Partnerships and Green Investment', organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in cooperation with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (Deposits and Loans Fund). In his introductory speech, Deputy Minister Cirielli highlighted that the Mattei Plan gives priority to Africa, thanks to instruments put in place by Italy for concrete actions on the ground. He mentioned the role played by the Foreign Ministry's international cooperation and the Italian Climate Fund, emphasising the government's efforts to coordinate and broaden the impact of these initiatives, working with international partners such as the European Union, the World Bank and the African Development Bank.
The great climate emergency of the Aral Sea was the focus of the other two events at which the Deputy Minister spoke. Again at the Italian Pavilion, organised by the Foreign Ministry in collaboration with AICS and Sogesid, Hon. Cirielli opened the event entitled "The Management of Environmental Regeneration: the Case of the Aral Sea". The event, which saw the participation of government authorities from the countries of the region, highlighted the ongoing collaboration on the environmental restoration of the Aral Sea. The Deputy Minister also took part in the event organised at the Uzbek Pavilion entitled "From Ambition to Action: Climate Resilience and Sustainable Development in the Aral Sea", which brought together international and local representatives to discuss the initiatives promoted by the Aral Sea Fund.
Deputy Minister Cirielli's participation in these events reflects Italy's commitment to climate action, promoting a model of international cooperation based on sustainability, resilience, and open dialogue between governments, organisations, local communities, and the for-profit sector.
From 11 to 22 November, the Italian Pavilion will host a series of events organised by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.
