Winners of Institutional Investors awards to be honored September 12 in New York

Lila Hunnewell, Boston University's chief investment officer, who manages the day-to-day investments of the University's $3 billion-plus endowment, has been nominated along with her team for an Institutional Investor award in the category of Endowment/Foundation CIO of the Year. The 7th Annual Allocators' Choice Awards will be held September 12 at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City.

"I have always thought managing an endowment well is a 'team sport,'" Hunnewell says of the nomination. "So, I am extremely proud of the BU investment team's hard work, dedication to our collaborative culture, and constant focus on good stewardship of BU's endowment. We work together to direct the marginal dollar to the best opportunity, every day and all day, and we have fun doing it, together!

The awardnominator recognized Hunnewell "for consistently hitting strong investment returns, but also for her dedication to mentoring young people in the [limited partner] community. Although Hunnewell's career did not start in the asset allocation business, she is 'one of the few people to successfully navigate over to the CIO role.'"

Hunnewell, who joined BU in 2011, studied economics and graduated from Princeton, and went on to earn an MBA from the Harvard Business School. She joined Cambridge Associates, where her clients included a $650 million educational institution, pension funds, and a range of educational, cultural, religious, and conservation groups.

Institutional Investor is an international business to business publisher, focused primarily on international finance. In addition to its content and newsletters, it also runs conferences, seminars, and training courses and is a provider of electronic business information through its capital market databases and emerging markets information service.
