Undersecretary Silli on an institutional mission to Panama and Costa Rica

Italy's Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Giorgio Silli went on an institutional mission to Panama and Costa Rica from 30 June to 2 July.

On 1 July in Panama, Undersecretary Silli took part, on behalf of the President of the Italian Republic, in the inauguration ceremony of the President of Panama, José Raul Mulino Quintero, who was elected on 5 May. "Italy and Panama maintain excellent relations on a political and economic level, with opportunities also in new sectors, particularly in the fields of science and technology and space," commented Silli, who noted that further synergies and innovative partnerships could be explored through the Bilateral Political Consultations Mechanism.

On 2 July in San José, Costa Rica, Silli held meetings with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lydia Peralta Cordero, Vice Minister of the Interior Marlen Luna, Luis Fernando Mendoza Jiménez, President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Legislative Assembly, and the President of the Costa Rican-Italian Chamber of Commerce. "Costa Rica is one of Italy's main partners in Central America, due to the countries' long-standing friendship and solid relationship, whose 160th anniversary will be celebrated in 2024," remarked the Undersecretary, who highlighted the excellent state of bilateral relations and the opportunities still to be seized, thanks also to the Political Consultations Mechanism, the third session of which will be convened in the coming months.

During his talks with Deputy Minister Peralta and Vice Minister Luna, Undersecretary Silli mentioned the case of the disputed minor Cora Dwyn Zardini Lucifero.
