BATON ROUGE, LA - July 24, 2024 - Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome commends the Metropolitan Council for their approval to reallocate $2,557,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. This reallocation will be utilized in accordance with the U.S. Treasury guidelines under the negative economic impacts and revenue loss expenditure category, allowing these funds to be used for general government services impacted by the COVID-19 public health emergency.

The ARPA funds have been appropriated through previous Metropolitan Council actions. According to the U.S. Treasury guidance, all ARPA funds must be obligated by December 31, 2024. However, once obligated, funds can be expended until December 31, 2026. No new projects or amendments will be allowed after the obligation deadline, emphasizing the importance of timely and strategic allocation.
