Polish-Congolese political consultations

Secretary of State at the Polish MFA Andrzej Szejna took part in political consultations with the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Kinshasa. The Polish delegation was headed by Deputy Minister Szejna and included representatives of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, and business circles.

The Polish delegation was welcomed by the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Félix Tshisekedi, Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka, Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, and Minister for Urban Planning Didier Te Litho Tenge.

The talks covered prospects for the strengthening of bilateral cooperation including political dialogue and engagement of Polish businesses in various branches of the Congolese economy. Deputy Minister Andrzej Szejna and the foreign minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo signed a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations, which from now on will be held by the two Ministries on a regular basis. A schedule of further contacts has also been adopted including a visit of the foreign minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the meeting of both presidents on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The two officials also elaborated on the difficult situation in the eastern part of the African country. The deputy head of Polish diplomacy reiterated Poland's unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and noted that Poland's position is rooted in its respect for the international law.
