M-66, Histand Drain rebuilding start Wednesday

MARSHALL, Mich. -The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will replace the Histand Drain culvert under M-66, and rebuild M-66 north of Athens, Calhoun County. The $1.3 million investment includes removing the existing culvert and replacing it with a 12-foot by 11-foot precast concrete box culvert, cofferdams and rebuilding the road.

Traffic restrictions:
M-66 will be closed at the Histand Drainbetween 3 1/2 Mile Road and Q Drive South.
Local traffic will be detoured on M-60, M-311 and I-94.
Commercial traffic will be detoured on I-94, I-69 and M-60.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 16 jobs.

Safety benefit:
The new culvert will improve drainage and the rebuilt road will improve the ride quality and extend the life of the roadway.
