NASSP Reacts to House Subcommittee Budget Proposal for FY25

RESTON, VA-The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) issued the following statement on the House Appropriations Committee FY25 budget proposal released today:

"Slashing essential programs for growing the educator workforce and supporting students' academic and mental health recovery is flat-out irresponsible," said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. "This proposal threatens to drive beloved teachers out of the classroom, leave suicidal students without lifesaving care and hobble the ability of students to learn the skills they need for their dream job. It's time for the House to listen to educators and students and reconsider these harmful cuts to programs our communities desperately need."Earlier this month, the NASSP Principal Recovery Network, a national network of current and former school leaders who have experienced gun violence tragedies in their buildings, met with Members of Congress to ask for the additional $5 million in Project SERVE grants that the subcommittee included in their budget proposal. In March, nearly 400 school leaders gathered in the Capitol to ask Congress to address the student mental health crisis and educator shortages.
