Saint Francis University Welcomes Inaugural Group of Students to Patient Care Technician (PCT) Program at Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic Academy

Saint Francis University is excited to announce the acceptance of the inaugural group of students into the new Patient Care Technician (PCT) Program, offered exclusively to Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic Academy students. This program, a unique collaboration between Saint Francis University and Bishop Guilfoyle, is designed not only to offer students an early entry into healthcare but also to give them a competitive edge in pursuing high-demand healthcare careers and advanced educational programs.

A Strategic Partnership for Early Career Advancement

Through this dual enrollment program, Bishop Guilfoyle students can complete two foundational courses, totaling approximately 60 hours, before graduating high school. The curriculum blends online learning with hands-on training at the Saint Francis University Curry Innovation Center in downtown Altoona, PA. This innovative approach allows students to jumpstart their healthcare careers while still in high school.

Building a Strong Foundation for Success in Competitive Healthcare Careers

The PCT program is structured to fast-track students into the healthcare workforce, equipping them with the skills and credentials necessary to excel in a competitive field. After completing the program, students will be prepared to take the national licensure exam, qualifying them for roles in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings.

Cutting-Edge Training for a Competitive Edge

Students in the PCT program gain hands-on experience in clinical settings at Altoona UPMC, learning critical skills such as phlebotomy, electrocardiography, and direct patient care. The program's use of health simulation labs and partnerships with local healthcare facilities ensures that students receive a high level of practical training. This combination of advanced skills and real-world experience provides participants with a strong foundation as they enter competitive healthcare careers or apply to advanced medical programs.

Saint Francis University and Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic Academy are thrilled to welcome the first group of students in January 2025. This innovative partnership not only offers a pathway to healthcare careers but also empowers students to stand out in an increasingly competitive field.
