Sigrid - Data Quality Manager

As a data quality manager in the data governance team, Sigrid ensures that the data for the new ERP system is correct. She checks whether all data is complete and correct, such as customer data and customer object data. 'I receive data from the branches, scrutinise it and look for errors such as spelling mistakes or missing data. If something is missing, I think about where I can get the data from,' explains Sigrid, our Data Quality Manager.

So you're something of a data detective?

'I'll put it this way, my father used to tell me to read the newspaper and not look for mistakes ... I notice mistakes very quickly, especially with numbers,' our Data Quality Manager tells us in the interview. When we asked for figures, Sigrid adds: 'In the last round, I checked around 20,000 accounts receivable and 90,000 asset data, cleaned them up and prepared them for importing into the ERP system.' (Wow!)

'I started at a sister company of CWS Fire Safety in 2020 and prepared data there until I was made aware of the vacancy for a Data Quality Manager at CWS Fire Safety,' Sigrid tells us. One major advantage is the network in which CWS Fire Safety is located. Employees have many opportunities to change jobs within the network. The switch to CWS Fire Safety was easy: 'I applied, had two online interviews and then got the employment contract straight away,' our Data Quality Manager tells us succinctly.

And what about further development on the job?

'I was able to pick up a lot of expertise from my previous jobs,' says the Data Quality Manager. The only drawback was: 'I didn't have many exchanges with colleagues from other countries, but I did have to improve my English language skills a bit.' (It's great when employees and companies #GrowTogether, expand their own comfort zone and keep getting better).

'My typical working day depends on what data is due at the time,' explains our Data Quality Manager. 'But essentially, I spend the whole day looking after data for the ERP system.' Sigrid works very focussed on the data to ensure data quality. Would that be something for you too?

And what do you particularly enjoy about your job as a data quality manager?

'I like fiddling with data,' she tells us succinctly. 'I enjoy finding and correcting errors.' It gets particularly exciting when our data quality manager discovers recurring errors. 'I then look at why they keep occurring and give my colleagues tips on how to maintain data quality.' Sigrid describes the tight schedule as challenging. 'Sometimes unforeseen tasks come up and it's a challenge to check and adjust all the data on time,' she tells us.

'Logical thinking is crucial. You need to know where you get the data from and how to sort it correctly, and you should be able to demonstrate this in the interview,' our data quality manager advises interested applicants.
