Statement from CWA President Claude Cummings Jr. on President Biden’s Decision Not to Seek Re-Election

We all owe President Joe Biden a debt of gratitude. When he took office, billionaires were thriving while working people's livelihoods had been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to the Biden-Harris Administration and Democratic leadership in Congress, our country has turned the corner. Unprecedented investments in infrastructure have created millions of good union jobs, prescription drug prices are coming down, and 50,000 CWA members' pensions have been saved from insolvency.

As he has done throughout his career, today Joe Biden put the best interests of our country first. In the coming days, the CWA Executive Board will be meeting to review our endorsement. However, one thing remains perfectly clear: a second Trump presidency would be a disaster for working people and the labor movement. CWA members remain focused on electing a President and a pro-worker U.S. Senate and House of Representatives that will carry on Joe Biden's work.

Thank you, President Biden. We have been proud to work by your side to realize your vision of an inclusive America where hard work is valued and we take care of each other.
