The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), in partnership with El Dorado Irrigation District (EID) and Sierra Pacific Industries, will conduct a fuels reduction burn within the Sly Park Vegetation Management Project on November 7 and 8, 2024.
The prescribed burn will cover approximately 50 acres on the north side of Jenkinson Lake, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day, conditions permitting. This effort aims to enhance forest health by reducing excess vegetation, creating a timber stand more resistant to drought, beetle infestations, and wildfires. The burn also serves as a critical component of the area's fire protection strategy, increasing resilience for surrounding communities.
Residents and visitors in the area may notice smoke during the burn period. CAL FIRE will evaluate conditions hourly to ensure safe and controlled operations. If conditions become unfavorable, the burn will be halted immediately.
