Update on War Memorial & Legislative Plaza Closure – Phase 3a

DGS will move into Phase 3a of the War Memorial and Legislative Plaza Closure Plan effective October 7, 2024. 

Phase 3a includes closing the remainder of the block around the Legislative Plaza and War Memorial buildings by extending the fence enclosure, which will last for the duration of this project. (Attachment, Map 1 - Red box notes fencing).

The northbound lane of 7th Avenue will remain closed, requiring drivers to detour to 6th Avenue or Rosa Parks Avenue from Union Street. (Attachment, Map 2 - Red box shows the fenced perimeter, and green arrows show traffic patterns.)

7th Avenue will also be completely closed for approximately two weeks around the end of October. We will share additional information closer to the closure date.

Access to the Capitol will remain available through the Motlow Tunnel on MLK Boulevard until Phase 3b begins in January 2025. (Marked with a green arrow on Map 1.)
