Newly formed Murfreesboro Sports Authority meets Aug. 12 at Airport

The Murfreesboro Sports Authority will gather for an organizational meeting Monday, August 12, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., at the Municipal Airport Business Center Community Room, 1930 Memorial Blvd.in Murfreesboro.

The Tennessee General Assembly has granted municipalities statutory right to create sports authorities. The stated purpose of these types of authority is expressed within the statute:

to plan, promote, finance, construct, acquire, renovate, equip and enlarge

buildings, sports complexes, stadiums, arenas, structures, and facilities for

public participation and enjoyment of professional and amateur sports, fitness,

health and recreational activities.

The Murfreesboro City Council has appointed City residents to serve on the Board based on their experience, education, and knowledge. The following have been appointed to the Board:

Paul Latture

Ben Parsley

Mary Elam Polk

Whit Turnbow

Robert White

The Board will meet as necessary, but not less than twice each year.
