Agencies Seek Feedback on Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan

The City of Eugene, City of Springfield, Eugene Water and Electric Board and Rainbow Water District invite the public to attend one of two sessions to learn about natural hazard mitigation planning efforts.

A natural hazards mitigation plan identifies natural hazards, vulnerabilities and risks facing local, state, or tribal governments and prioritizes processes and actions to reduce the risks.

The four local groups have been a part of a shared multijurisdictional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan since the early 2000s. This year, they are transitioning their plans to Lane County's MJNHMP. Lane County, during the past few years, has increased its planning efforts to include area agencies into its larger county-wide plan.

Combining many plans into one county-wide plan allows for more efficient management and helps with risk planning, as well as better coordination among area partners.

The agencies, as part of the move to the county plan and the renewal of their own individual agency annex plans, are hosting two public info sessions about this transition and updates to their planning efforts. The public is encouraged to attend the sessions to learn more and to give feedback on the planning efforts. There is also a survey related to the topic.

The survey will be open through Sept. 22, and a report on the results will be included in the agency natural hazard mitigation annex plans.
