On October 28, 2024, at approximately midnight, General Patrol officers from the Central District with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team responded to the report of a male shot in the area of Hargrave/Portage.
Police provided emergency medical care to the victim in his 70s who had sustained a gunshot wound to his head. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and upgraded to stable condition. The firearm was determined to be a BB gun.
The victim reported that he was leaving a restaurant and walking along Hargrave Street when out of nowhere he had been shot. Three youths fled the area.
Witnesses in the area provided a description to police and two males ages 12 and 14 and a 13-year-old female were eventually located and taken into custody.
They are facing assault and firearm-related charges and remain in in police custody at this time.The investigation was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit. Investigators believe the suspects were randomly shooting the firearm and there are additional victims who have not yet been identified.
