Various Routes in McDonald, Newton Counties Scheduled for Resurfacing Beginning Week of Aug. 12

McDonald & Newton Counties - Drivers can expect lane closures and occasional traffic delays on various routes in McDonald and Newton counties for a resurfacing project beginning the week of August 12, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

This project is part of Gov. Parson's Rural Routes program. The state's approved Fiscal Year 2023 budget provided an additional $100 million in General Revenue for work on Missouri's low volume rural roads. Using asset management data, MoDOT has identified approximately 1,700 lane miles of low volume roads ranked in Poor Condition. By the end of the program, these 113 locations will receive resurfacing treatments of hot mix asphalt to improve the road conditions.

This is the work being done on this project:

  • McDonald County Route EE between I-49 west to a point approximately 11.5 miles to the end of state maintenance
  • McDonald County Route K between Business 71 in Pineville east to Missouri Route 90 east of Jane
  • McDonald County Route W between Business 71 in Pineville north to Missouri Route 76
  • McDonald County Route Y between McDonald County Route B east of Goodman north to U.S. Route 60 in Newton County east of Seneca
  • McDonald County Route NN between Missouri Route 59 north of Anderson east approximately 4.5 miles to the end of state maintenance
  • McDonald County Route J between Missouri Route 43 in Southwest City west approximately 0.6 miles to the Missouri/Oklahoma state line
  • McDonald County Route PP between Missouri Route 43 in Southwest City south approximately 1.3 miles to the Missouri/Arkansas state line

Contractor crews will add an overlay of new asphalt and permanent striping to the above routes.

Traffic impacts:

  • Traffic reduced to one lane where contractor crews are laying asphalt
  • Drivers will encounter flaggers and pilot cars where crews are working. Drivers should wait for the pilot vehicle before proceeding through the work zone or before entering the work zone from a side road.
  • Work will be done during daytime hours; all lanes open to traffic at night
  • No signed detour
  • Drivers should find alternate routes
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zones
  • Check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Drivers are urged to use caution as they may experience a rough ride in areas until the resurfacing project is complete.

Weather and/or scheduling delays could alter the work schedule.

Project information:

  • Prime contractor: Emery Sapp & Sons, Springfield
  • Total project cost: $3.3 million
