DLA Troop Support employee celebrated for four decades of service

PHILADELPHIA -

While for some, 1984 brings back memories of paying $1.10 for a gallon of gas or listening to Michael Jackson's latest album, "Thriller," for one Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support employee, that year began a four-decade career of federal service.

Roberta Hill-McKenzie was surrounded by family, close friends and co-workers as she celebrated the culmination of her 40-year career.

DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Landis Maddox officiated the ceremony.

"When I look at 40 years in the military, most of our four-star generals don't serve 40 years," he said. "So, it is indeed an honor for me to stand before you and give you the gratitude that you deserve for your 40 years of service."

Hill-McKenzie began her career as a public affairs specialist at the age of 16 with the Defense Industrial Supply Center, a legacy organization of DLA Troop Support. She has remained with DLA for her entire career and is retiring as a material planner in the Construction and Equipment supply chain.

She was filled with emotion as she addressed the attendees.

"I'm filled with joy," she said. "I am just so overwhelmed seeing you all here and the support you give means so much. I am always carrying you in my heart and will take with me in retirement."

Hill-McKenzie said that the people are what she will miss most about DLA Troop Support.

"This is bittersweet," she said. "I am going to miss all the laughs we shared. It has truly been my honor and pleasure for me, and I will always be grateful for my time here at DLA and the people that came into my life."

After retirement, Hill-McKenzie plans to go on a cruise and enjoy time with family and friends.
