Profs. Womack and Campbell Publish “Bruce Songs: The Music of Bruce Springsteen, Album by Album, Song by Song”

Kenneth Womack, Ph.D., professor of English and Popular Music, and Kenneth L. Campbell, Ph.D., professor in the Department of History and Anthropology, published "Bruce Songs: The Music of Bruce Springsteen, Album-by-Album, Song-by-Song," on Springsteen's birthday, Sept. 23.

Womack and Campbell provide an in-depth exploration of Springsteen's musical legacy, covering his entire discography from "Greeting from Asbury Park, N.J.," to "Only the Strong Survive," while combining historical context, literary analysis, and meticulous research.

"'Bruce Songs' is a valuable addition to the ever-growing Springsteen library, an essential work for everyone from fans to music scholars. Womack and Campbell make for a wonderful one-two punch, each giving informative and highly readable tidbits on the Springsteen catalogue that make you want to go back and listen to every song they write about," said Robert Santelli, executive director of the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music at Monmouth University.

The book also includes a detailed analysis of each album, essays on their historical significance, and chronological examination of every studio song, in addition to featuring contemporary insights and rich visuals.

Womack has authored numerous books, including "Solid State: The Story of Abbey Road and the end of the Beatles," "John Lennon 1980: The Last Days in the Life," and "Living the Beatles Legend: The Untold Story of Mal Evans."

Campbell has taught multiple courses on the Beatles and Bruce Springsteen, in addition to writing and editing a number of books on various topics, including "The Beatles and the 1960s: Reception, Revolution, and Social Change."
