DEBATE RECAP: Alison Esposito Thinks Gun Violence Is Not a Real Issue

During tonight's first debate in New York's Eighteenth Congressional District, Alison Esposito admitted that she doesn't think gun violence is a real issue impacting Hudson Valley families: "We don't have a gun problem in this country."

This isn't the first time Esposito has proven she won't stand up to anti-gun extremists:

  • Esposito opposed an assault weapons ban, saying, "We have every right in this country to possess these weapons."

  • Esposito dismissed concerns over gun safety, saying it was "not New Yorkers' focus right now."

  • Esposito said she "[does] not believe in red flag laws" to keep guns out of the hands of people who present clear threats to themselves and others.

  • Esposito's Republican Party leader and nominee for president, four time indicted Donald Trump, has publicly stated he opposes strengthening America's gun laws.

  • Recent reporting also revealed that Esposito lost her gun while serving in the NYPD - which was stolen from an unlocked car. Esposito did not report the incident until up to two days later and was reprimanded by the NYPD for her actions, including getting 20 vacation days docked "for failing to safeguard the firearm."

DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
"Despite campaigning on a 'tough on crime' platform, Alison Esposito further proved tonight she'll do nothing to look out for the safety of Hudson Valley families and children."
