Chaplain Arrested After Sexually Assaulting Elderly Woman in Hospice

On August 8, 2024, Arthur Apgar of Placer County was arrested in relation to a sexual assault investigation conducted by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office Sexual and Elder Abuse Bureau (SEAB). The victim in this case was an elderly female who resided at a care facility where Apgar was working as a Hospice Chaplain at the time of the assault.
Apgar was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on four counts of Sexual Battery Against a Person who is Seriously Disabled or Medically Incapacitated. He posted bail and was released from custody a short time later. Apgar is scheduled to appear in court on August 12.

Apgar has had access to numerous other potential victims as a Hospice Chaplain. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this case, or who has potentially been a victim or has family members or loved ones who have had any contact with Mr. Apgar are urged to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office Sexual and Elder Abuse Bureau at (916) 874-5070 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357).
