SFA’s Friday Night Film Series to screen ‘Gremlins’

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin State University's School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the classic comedy/horror film "Gremlins" at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct 4, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

The Friday Films Committee selected "Gremlins" to celebrate the film's 40th anniversary and kick off the spooky season.

"Gremlins" is about a young man who receives a strange creature as a pet. When he doesn't follow the three simple rules in taking care of the pet, it spawns other creatures that transform into monsters and wreak havoc on the small town during Christmas Eve.

The film was directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus. It stars Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, Hoyt Axton, Polly Holliday, Frances Lee McCain and Howie Mandel.

The School of Art's Friday Night Film Series is sponsored in part by retired filmmaking Professor William Arscott and the Friends of the Visual Arts. The Cole Art Center, SFA's historic downtown gallery, is located at 329 E. Main St. For more information, call (936) 468-1131.
