Senators Wicker, Manchin Lead Resolution to Recognize Gold Star Children

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., and Joe Manchin, I-W.Va., have introduced a resolution designating August 1, 2024, as Gold Star Children's Day to recognize the sacrifices of the children of fallen service members.

In just over a century since America's Gold Star tradition began, nearly 5,500 Mississippians have made the ultimate sacrifice in a time frame ranging from World War I to the present day, resulting in roughly 10,000 Gold Star Children during that 100-year history.

"The sons and daughters of our fallen service members carry on their legacy. Recognizing them with this special day is the least we can do to honor the lifelong sacrifice they made," Senator Wicker said.

"West Virginians and Americans are forever grateful to the brave patriots and their families who have made the ultimate sacrificed for the country we all love," Senator Manchin said. "No child should ever have to grow up without a parent, and I cannot imagine the pain of losing a loved one in the line of duty. I am proud that our bipartisan resolution designating August 1st, 2024, as Gold Star Children's Day has passed the Senate to honor their dedication and sacrifice to the nation we all love so dearly. I extend my deepest condolences and upmost gratitude to every Gold Star family and child."
