Mayor Bass Sends Staff Delegation To South Korea To Strengthen Ties

LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is proud to announce that she is sending a delegation of two Korean staffers to the Republic of Korea to participate in the 10th Global Korean Politicians Forum. This significant event, which gathers Korean political leaders from around the world, will be held in Seoul, Korea from August 20 to 23, 2024 and will be of no expense to taxpayers.

Jieun Kim, Deputy Director of Korean Language Communications of Mayor's Office of Communications, and Su In Lee, Small Business Policy Manager of Mayor's Office of Business Economic Development (MOBED) make up the delegation. Both have diligently served the Los Angeles communities for years as aids, particularly supporting the Korean community for better representation.

"Los Angeles is home to the largest Korean community outside of Korea, and it is crucial for us to maintain and strengthen these important relationships," said Mayor Bass. "This delegation will play an important role in achieving these goals and supporting Angelenos here at home."

Both Kim and Lee are also board members of the Korean American Legislative Staff Association, which supports Korean-American aids to bridge mainstream and Korean American communities, as well as foster leadership among Korean Americans through these positions.

According to the 2020 U.S Census, the Korean American population in Los Angeles is 112,886(including mixed race), making it the largest Korean American community in the United States, with 326,000 Korean Americans. In the City of Los Angeles, the Korean American community is the second largest Asian American group, plays a significant role in the local economy and civic life, owning small businesses and professional service firms, and actively participating in politics, education, and art.
