City of Eugene and other local agencies working together on natural hazards mitigation plan

A natural hazards mitigation plan identifies natural hazards, vulnerabilities and risks facing local, state, or tribal governments and puts plans in place to reduce the risks to people, the environment, property, and the local economy before the next hazard strikes.

The City of Eugene, City of Springfield, Eugene Water and Electric Board and Rainbow Water are updating their natural hazard mitigation plans. The four local groups have been a part of a shared multijurisdictional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan since the early 2000s. This year, these groups are transitioning their plans to be incorporated into Lane County's larger county-wide plan. Combining many plans into one county-wide plan allows for more efficient management and helps with risk planning, as well as better coordination among area partners.

Additionally, these agencies are seeking community input on natural hazard mitigation planning efforts. The public is encouraged to provide feedback to the agencies on natural mitigation planning by completing a brief survey. The survey is open through Sunday, Sept. 22 and the summary will be shared with and incorporated into the natural hazard mitigation annex plans. Survey Link
