More than five decades ago, the UMMC School of Health Related Professions was born. Authorized by the Board of Trustees of the Mississippi State Institutions of Higher Learning in October 1971, the school exists to "provide a source of trained, competent allied health personnel to meet the needs of Mississippi; provide consultant services to allied health educational programs; aid in the development of appropriate cooperative education programs for allied health personnel; and provide continuing education programs for allied health personnel." SHRP (pronounced "sharp") has awarded more than 6,000 degrees, offering doctoral programs in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Health Administration. Master's programs are in Health Informatics and Information Management, Health Systems Administration, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Nuclear Medicine Technology. SHRP offers baccalaureate degrees in Health Systems Administration, Health Informatics and Information Management, Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science and Radiologic Sciences. Post-baccalaureate certificate programs are available in Health Informatics and Leadership and Management.
