Berkeley homeowners can get discounted rooftop solar and backup battery storage by pooling their buying power through a limited-time program known as Bay Area SunShares.

This program offers homeowners opportunities to receive free site evaluations, estimates, pre-negotiated price discounts, and other incentives for rooftop solar and battery storage. This program can help put clean, carbon-free renewable energy within reach of more Berkeley households when combined with a 30% federal tax credit for rooftop solar.

Rooftop solar can help to lower your utility bills, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase the value of your home. Solar battery backups allow you to store energy for later use, which can help keep essential devices like medical equipment and refrigerators running during planned or unplanned during power outages.

Learn about the benefits of home solar through upcoming webinars

This free program includes educational webinars that can help you to learn more about vetting solar and battery installation provider services in the Berkeley area. Register now for webinars being held in September, October, and November where more information about solar, battery storage, and pre-vetted installers will be shared. Register by November 6th.

Webinar Dates:

The City of Berkeley has partnered with SunShares for more than a decade, to help residents learn more about clean energy options available in Berkeley. Managed by the Business Council on Climate Change, this program builds upon partnerships with several other Bay Area cities, employers, and community-based-organizations to access group discounts for solar-related resources. SunShares provides free educational webinars to help Bay Area residents learn more about solar and storage and offers pre-vetted installers to simplify the research process.

When you sign up for SunShares, you'll get a no-cost, no-obligation site evaluation to determine if your home is suitable for home solar, battery storage, or both. If you decide to proceed with a solar installation, you can choose to work with one of two vetted solar installers selected by a community evaluation committee. Contracts must be signed by December 15, 2024 and installations will take place by Spring 2025.
