WCO Concludes Successful Risk Management Workshop for China Customs in Shanghai

On 9 September, the World Customs Organization (WCO) concluded a five-day Risk Management Workshop for China Customs, held in Shanghai. The event brought together over 40 Customs officers from the Customs National Targeting Bureaus (CNTBs) and various regional Customs offices across the country.

In his opening address, Mr. Pu Min, Director General of the CNTB in Shanghai, underscored the strategic importance of the workshop as a key platform to enhance dialogue and foster collaboration between China Customs and the WCO. He emphasized the importance of joint efforts in strengthening global Customs practices.

The sessions covered a wide range of topics related to Customs risk management, including advanced data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning applications. Participants also explored emerging trends and evolving tactics in illicit trade.

Dynamic exchanges of views led to interesting discussions between the WCO experts and participants on how to address the challenges raised and provided opportunities to explore innovative solutions.

In the margin of the workshop, WCO experts met with Mr. Lin Wei, Director General of Risk Management at the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC). Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and discussed China Customs' ongoing contributions to the development of the WCO Risk Management Compendium.

Funded by the China Customs Cooperation Fund (CCF China), the workshop was hosted by the Shanghai Customs College and benefitted from its warm hospitality.
