Director-General of the Department of European Affairs met with Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Thailand

On 11 October 2024, Mrs. Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Director-General of the Department of European Affairs, met with H.E. Mr. Elchin Ragub oglu Bashirov, Ambassador-Designate of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Thailand. Both sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation on mutually interested areas, namely tourism, sports, education, trade and investment opportunities, as well as the convening of the first Political Consultations between Thailand and Azerbaijan and the cooperation on the draft Agreement of the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic and Official/Service Passports. Moreover, both sides further explored other areas of potential initiatives, such as starting direct flights between Thailand and Azerbaijan and convening the first consular consultations between both sides.

On this occasion, H.E. Ambassador-Designate expressed gratitude for the Ministry's guidance on the establishment of the first Azerbaijani Embassy in Thailand. Furthermore, the Azerbaijani side sought Thailand's support for Azerbaijan's candidature to host the UN Biodiversity Summit COP17 in Cali, Republic of Colombia, in 2026.
