September is National Preparedness Month

Lowndes County, Georgia:Disasters are unpredictable and can instantly change our lives. Being proactive and taking the time now to prepare for potential future incidents could save time and prevent the loss of life. Lowndes County Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, is encouraging all residents to take advantage of this year's National Preparedness Month.

This year's theme is "Start a Conversation." Lowndes County joins this nationwide coalition of thousands of private, public, and nonprofit organizations for the month-long initiative to increase awareness and inspire Georgians to be prepared for any natural or man-made disaster.

"In the midst of a disaster, you may not know what to do or where to go for help," said Ashley Tye, Lowndes County Emergency Management Director. "That's why I urge all residents to review and update their emergency plans or create one if they haven't already."

Each week focuses on a different. The topics are as follows:

Week 1: September 1-7 Plan Ahead

Week 2: September 8-14 Make a Plan

Week 3: September 15-21 Build a Kit

Week 4: September 22-28 Stay Informed

More tips on how to prepare and plan before a natural or man-made disaster can be found at gema.georgia.gov/plan-prepare/ready-georgia.
