Native American Heritage Month Celebrated at SBU

Stony Brook University recognizes Native American Heritage Month in acknowledgment of the rich contributions of Native American and Indigenous Peoples.

Campus events include the "Introduction to Long Island and Queens Native History" on Monday, November 18, at noon in the Student Activities Center auditorium. The guest speaker will be Tecumseh Ceaser, a member of the Matinecock Turkey Clan, Montaukett, and Unkechaug Nations and a cultural educator and talented Wampum jewelry artist. He will explore the vibrant history and culture of Indigenous communities native to Long Island and Queens. This event is an enriching opportunity to connect with the region's original cultures and their lasting impact today.

This event is free and open to all Stony Brook University community members and guests. It is sponsored by Diversity, Intercultural and Community Engagement (DICE), and the Native American and Indigenous Studies Initiative.

A Native American Heritage Month dinner, a tribute to Native American cuisine, will be offered Wednesday, November 20 at 4 pm at both East Side and West Side Dining, courtesy of SBU Eats.
