Sparks, NV - The following are highlights from the August 26, 2024, Sparks City Council Meeting.

Announcements, Presentations, Recognition Items, and Items of Special Interest:

• City Manager Dion Louthan announced two vacancies on the Sparks Building Code Board of Appeals for an electrical engineer or electrical contractor and a structural/civil engineer. Each must have at least 10 years of experience, five years being responsible charge of work. Applications will be accepted until August 29, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. and can be found at cityofsparks.us/getinvolved.
• Mayor Ed Lawson proclaimed September 8- 14, 2024, as Suicide Prevention Week to raise awareness and funds, healing, and support.
• Mayor Ed Lawson proclaimed September 2- 6, 2024, as National Payroll Week to recognize payroll professionals who play a key role in the American system.
• Mayor Ed Lawson proclaimed September 25, 2024, as AARP Day to recognize AARP's commitment to older Americans and empower people to choose how they live as they age.
• Sleep in Heavenly Peace Team Members Angie Mahaiuddin, Ray Mahaiuddin, and Miguel Angel Ochoa gave a presentation on their efforts to ensure that all children have a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads.

General Business

Council approved:

• The $297,146.02 purchase of two Groundsmaster mowers and one rotary broom attachment from Turf Star Western as part of the Fleet Replacement Program.
• Up to $1,411,224.00 for contract labor to maintain City of Sparks parks, streets, drains, and facilities, and provide administrative support for the City of Sparks Public Works Maintenance section.
