Voices to Celebrate 30 Years with Reunion Concert

Lee University announces a reunion concert for the Voices of Lee to celebrate the ensemble's 30th anniversary next month. This concert, led by founding director Danny Murray, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Conn Center, featuring over 150 voices.

The Voices of Lee will celebrate this occasion as former members of the group join Murray and current members for a weekend reunion in September, featuring a nostalgic concert of music performed over the past 30 years.

"Since the beginning, Danny and the Voices of Lee have delivered unparalleled skill and passion to their audiences," said Lee President Paul Conn. "The effect of their continuous excellence over the years is immeasurable."

This 15-member a cappella ensemble has captivated audiences worldwide with its intense musical focus and dedication to harmony, spirit, and performance since debuting in September 1994. Directed by Murray, the Voices of Lee was propelled into the international spotlight in 2009 when the group appeared on the debut season of NBC's Sing-Off competition for a cappella groups and finished as second runner up.

The group has also appeared on Good Morning America and performed for Christmas at the White House, at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, and at the Shanghai International Music Festival in China. Voices was also featured in "Christmas on Broadway" in a national telecast concert called "Make the Season Bright" from the Beacon Theatre in New York City, with Dr. David Jeremiah.

The Voices of Lee are sought after for major conventions all over the U.S. and internationally. They are also well known for their inspirational performances at some of the nation's greatest churches, such as Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas; Life Church in Austin, Texas; Times Square Church in New York City; the Brooklyn Tabernacle; and Shadow Mountain Church in San Diego, California.

The ensemble has been voted one of the favorite groups by the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America and was awarded "Favorite Collegiate Group," "Favorite Religious Group," and "Favorite Video" by the International A Cappella Music Awards. Most recently, Voices' video recordings have exceeded 103 million views online.

"We invite everyone to come join us for this special anniversary concert, as we celebrate all that God has done and will continue to do through the Voices of Lee," said Murray. "We hope to see you there!"

Murray, a Lee alum, has coached collegiate musicians for more than 40 years. He is married to Lee Provost Dr. Debbie Murray, and they have four children and eleven grandchildren, all of whom reside in Cleveland, Tennessee. Having spent the last 30 years as director of Voices, Murray holds the record for the longest-running directorship of any vocal ensemble in the history of Lee University.

Tickets for the Saturday evening Reunion Concert will be $15 for general admission and can be purchased at voicesoflee.eventbrite.com or by calling (423) 614-8320.
