SHPL Receives Six Free Air Filters Through MDHHS MI Indoor Air Ventilation Program

The Sterling Heights Public Library is excited to announce the recent receipt of six free air filters and replacement filters from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) through the MI Indoor Air Ventilation Program. This initiative is designed to improve indoor air quality in public spaces, creating safer environments by reducing airborne particles that can contribute to respiratory illnesses.

The MI Indoor Air Ventilation Program, launched in December 2022, has been supplying K-12 schools across Michigan with air purifiers at no cost, thanks to a partnership between MDHHS and a top safety equipment supplier. Recognizing the importance of clean air in various public and community spaces, the program has now expanded to libraries, long-term care facilities, and additional community centers, all aiming to enhance health and well-being.

Equipped with advanced technology, these air filters remove 99.9% of particles as small as 0.1 microns. This high level of filtration supports improved air quality, helping to protect library patrons, staff, and visitors by fostering a healthier indoor environment. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also recommends enhanced ventilation in public buildings to mitigate the spread of respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19.

"This partnership with MDHHS brings invaluable support to our library," said Tammy Turgeon, Director of the Sterling Heights Public Library. "Clean, healthy air is vital for our community, especially as our library continues to be a hub for residents of all ages. We're grateful for MDHHS's efforts in providing these air filters, which will help keep our library a safe space for all."

The addition of these air filters reflects the library's commitment to public health and its dedication to maintaining a welcoming environment for the Sterling Heights community. The MI Indoor Air Ventilation Program is part of MDHHS's broader effort to improve indoor air quality and reduce health risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
