This Arrangement is an important step forward in strengthening their cooperation in promoting the innovation, development and responsible use of safe, trustworthy and human-centric AI.
Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President for a Europe Fit for the Digital Age, said:
"The safety of AI models used by people around the world is crucial. We have a common aim to ensure technology works for us and is in line with our values. Today's agreement underlines that when we share knowledge we can learn from each other. This allows us to reinforce the established digital collaboration. With safety in mind innovation can happen with minimal risk and advance in understanding this particularly fascinating yet challenging technology. I look forward to seeing the results of the cooperation between our AI office and the Singapore AI Safety Institute."
The two administrations, like-minded partners, agreed to address the safety of general-purpose AI models through information exchanges and best practices, joint testing and evaluations, development of tools and benchmarks, standardisation activities, as well as research on how to advance safe and trustworthy AI. Additionally, the two partners agreed to exchange views on trends and future technological developments in the field of AI, with further areas of collaboration remaining an option. The Administrative Arrangement signed today constitutes an important deliverable of the EU-Singapore Digital Partnership signed in 2023.
