The China Productivity Center and APO Secretariat organized a face-to-face workshop on Green Business Models from 10-13 September in Taichung, ROC. It aimed to develop an understanding of approaches and concepts guiding enterprises in transforming to green business models, provide insights into various aspects of and evaluation metrics for greening business operations, and build capacity in developing green business plans for enterprises. It was in line with the Green Productivity concept developed by the APO.
Twenty-three participants from 13 APO members and Tajikistan completed the course. They were guided by four resource persons from the ROC, Italy, Japan, and the ROK, who provided information on the positions and targets of climate actions, strategies to green business models, the significance of greenhouse gas protocols and life cycle thinking, emerging technological trends in renewable energy, leveraging sustainability standards to improve ESG parameters, ESG reporting, evaluating the greening of businesses, actions contributing to circular economy principles in line with the ISO 59000 family of standards, and developing strategies for circularity and assessing performance. Site visits to Victor Taichung Machinery and the APO COE on Smart Manufacturing allowed participants to gain a firsthand understanding of reduction approaches to green business models. The workshop included group work on hydrogen readiness assessment and action plans on greening businesses. The key outcome of the workshop was exposure to various vital elements related to greening businesses, such as ESG-related considerations, circular economy standards, and renewable energy and technologies.
